Dear Donohue family,
We've all lost a truly great man. If my dad, Wally Glaze, were here, he'd say Emmett was not only a respected boss, but also a great friend. My dad was consistently impressed with Emmett's character and work ethic and told us lots of stories about how Emmett would lead the way on fires.
My mom, Sarah Glaze, has dementia but still fondly remembers Emmett and Zoa Ann and was saddened to hear of Emmett's passing. She sends her love to Zoa Ann.

I met Emmett many years ago through his son Dale, who I worked together with in the Forest Service. He was definitely a man whose reputation proceeded him. Strong of character and conviction, a hard worker, knowledgeable of just about anything, and always willing to lend a helping hand.
As a young firefighter, I remember being on a fire near Green Valley Falls and as we struggled to pull hose up the hill, I looked through the smoke and saw Emmett up at the head of the fire with shovel in hand. He encouraged us to get on up the hill, turn the corner and knock down the fire. What really struck me at the time was the thought of why this Ranger would be out on the fireline spurring us on and helping to put out the fire. Wasn't he supposed to be down at the truck directing the operation? To this day, this memory sticks with me and serves as a reminder of what good leadership qualities look like.
On behalf of the Joseph's, our condolences go out to the entire family on Emmett's passing.

I put Grandpa #1 in my top ten list of American Heroes, His calm demeanor and helpful nature, I am going to give just one of many memories on here, Grandpa would always stop to pick-up anything in the road from big items all the way down to nuts and bolts. His legacy will continue with his remaining family

I only met Mr. Donohue a few times at his home in Dolores on the way to hunting trips with Dale. He was a very nice man. Always made his his home our home no matter how many hunters stopped by. His reputation as a firefighter impacted mine even before I ever met him. I started with the FS in 1978 and heard stories of him often. Kind of like a legend. I am sorry to hear of his passing and will pray for his family, but am also thankful for getting a chance to meet him and for his full and blessed life.

To the Donohue Family – We are sorry to hear of the passing of Emmett. He was so respected and truly an original. Julian was blessed to have him for so many years. I never worried about fire as a child in the Julian area because Captain Donohue was on the job and would keep us safe. We were honored to have known him.

Dear Kathy and Family,
I join with so many others who knew your father, Emmett, in offering our deepest sympathy on his passing. Although it is little consolation at this sad time, it should be of some satisfaction to know that in his passing you can celebrate the end of a very long and productive life.
The measure of a life well-lived is not in how much money one has or what possessions they have accumulated, but rather through the lives they have touched and the sorrow they leave behind. You can proudly say that his indeed was a life well-lived.
May you find peace and comfort in knowing that his loss is felt by all who knew him.
In Sympathy,
Julie and Nancy

Grandpa was such an amazing man. I enjoyed visiting with him, and spending time with him, when they visited California. I have so many memories of Grandpa. From eating LIFE cereal, to watching him warm up day-old coffee to drink. Backing down Uncle Dale's driveway, and hearing stories of the "old days". I am so thankful that Thomas was able to meet Grandpa a couple of times. Can't wait until he's older so we can share some Grandpa stories with him. I love you Grandma & was happy to spend time with you guys (although short) in April.
Love you!!

My husband, Herb Nemeyer, who passed away in 2003 worked with Emmett in Julian in the 50's. I remember when Zoann had their first baby and we visited with them. My deepest sympathy to the family.

Mr. Donohue always had a smile and encouraging word. Meghan and Casey called him Grandpa Donohue.
Casey remembers a pair of cowboy boots he gave him as a child. We will all miss him and are blessed to have known him. We wish the family comfort in their loss. Mr. Donohue was a true gentleman and member of the greatest generation.

Iknew Emmit when I worked as a Park Aid swasonal at Cuyamaca SP. I was able to live in the CDF station in the park. Having a similar last name made it a little easier for me when I was late paying room & board. He was a very easy person to knoe,
