Robert Dean Green was born on March 16, 1933 in Dolores, Co. to John Thurman and Roberta Green. He passed away at Southwest Memorial Hospital on Monday August 14, 2017 at the age of 84.
Robert graduated from MCHS as secretary of his class & a member of National Honor Society. Upon graduation he met and fell in love with Loretta Carlson and they married three years later at the Montezuma Valley Presbyterian Church while he was home on leave from the Army. They headed to Olympia, Wa. where he finished his service. Upon returning home to Cortez they started their family by welcoming Cheryl and Bobby. Robert worked for Nielson’s and Cortez Diesel until his retirement in 1995.
Robert was a Cowboy and a Horseman! He had a strong love for horses, fellow horse people and the outdoors which filled his life. He was an originating member of the Montezuma County Sheriff’s Posse where he served many years in multiple ranks including Major and was once named “Outstanding Posse Member of the Year”. Among his horsing fun he loved to elk hunt and trail ride in our beautiful mountains, Pony Express Racing, roping, barrel racing, and wild cow milking. He loved horse racing especially when his own horse ran, and he was president of the American Quarter Horse Association Horse Shows that were held locally. He also was a lifetime member of the Cortez Elks and past member of the school board. He received an award for “Outstanding Service” while on the Vo-Tech board. In earlier days he and Loretta square danced at the Dee Cox Hall and then later danced on Saturday nights at the American Legion. Robert was a loyal fan of the Rockies, Broncos, and Nuggets.
Preceding Robert in death were his parents John and Roberta, brothers Johnny and George Green, in-laws Harry and Nelda Carlson, Ed Carlson, and Jeanette Daves.
Surviving Robert are his loving wife Loretta of 63 years, his daughter Cheryl and spouse Jim Lindquist, his son Robert (Bobby) Green, grandchildren Ryann and spouse Kevin Gale, Derek Lindquist and life partner RJ, grandchildren Amanda, Lyndsey, and Ian Green.
